When Netflix needed a photographer to document behind the scenes production and create promotional images for Guillermo del Toro’s highly anticipated adaptation of Pinocchio, Jason Schmidt stood out as the perfect choice.
Jason is known for his impeccable performance on high pressure, challenging jobs. For Netflix’s Pinocchio, Jason photographed around forty animators spread across three warehouse buildings within two days’ time, while keeping carefully out of the crew’s way, as production was already underway. Jason also conceptualized and executed images of Guillermo del Toro acting as the puppets’ maestro, a special challenge because of the very minimal light on set.
The images from this project are featured in Netflix Queue Magazine, and Jason’s crafted portraits of Guillermo have already begun to appear everywhere as advertisements for the film in both print and digital. The intense demand of the shoot itself as well as the high-profile use of the final images
make this project one to remember.
